Unattended Xubuntu 14.04 LTS Upgrades on Laptops

If you've been running Xubuntu 14.04 LTS for awhile on your laptop, upgrading to 15.10 is just a matter of enabling the other version option in the software update utility.

The procedure for the upgrade is smoother for Xubuntu than other Ubuntu-based distributions. Unfortunately, the process may go awry if you're undergoing the operating system upgrade on a laptop. As always, if you intend to go through a direct Xubuntu upgrade, back up your files or at least avoid leaving the installation process unattended, since power saving or sleep mode can break the upgrade even if your laptop is plugged into a power socket.
